We will all remember what sexygir11 has said on this day.

We will all remember what sexygir11 has said on this day.

I am really excited about the fervor of political and social change documented through the torrent of tweets. The dire situation in Iran has solidified the role of social media worldwide. For once, this inexplicable online curiosity has proved an oft underestimated tenet of Twitter’s success – the pure, unadulterated flow of a 160 character, global consciousness filled with personal strife and links to European betting Web sites.

Tonight’s Song / Modest Mouse – The Good Times Are Killing Me

Web Music 1.1

Off its galatically huge album, Good News for People Who Love Bad News, in 2004, The Good Times Are Killing Me remains one of the biggest take aways from a monumental album. Of course everyone enjoyed Float On and Ocean Breathes Salty, but there were still a fair number of tracks deeper in the album to further their indie aspirations.

Goldfrapp, led by namesake Alison Goldfrapp, is an electronic band from England. They’ve had a few albums, a couple of U.K. hits and scored three U.S. dance hits off of their fourth album, Supernature.

Cologne Cerrone Houdini is the 8th track on their 2008 album, Seventh Tree.

Tonight’s Song – Paul Simon – St. Judy’s Comet

Update: Tonight’s Song is now embedded for playback!

To give a recap of the previous day, I need to preface the fact a majority of said Saturday was spent under the effects of beer (ten different beers to be exact.). What started as a steady, slow Saturday in the town of Brookings ended with a party that was decidedly frantic.

I’ll have more info on the beers that constitute the trip Around the World at Jim’s Tap, but I need to salvage my notes and remember what exactly happened in between drunken texts and awkward confessions of relationships gone awry. From what I remember, it involved Corona and Czechvar, which is never good. When soberness caught up with me, I was standing alone in the lounge with $20 and no drive to spend it. The bachelorette party had much to celebrate, and I join in their excitement – I just wish I hadn’t drank myself under a table not five hours prior.

Alas, I sit with my “free” shirt as I listen to Neil Young and wonder about the life around me. So many people are scurrying away from their lives here in this slow college town. While some of us never expected such an explosion of energy and angst, I feel it is our burden to experience the loss when friends flutter off to greater adventures. For those left to maintain the town, we look upon those destined to journey off into the sunset, much like the heroes in our movies. Although; I suspect Indiana Jones never worried about who he was going to party with next semester.

It is the predestined destiny of a five year college student. It isn’t the product of depression, rather the answer to general malaise.

Why I Voted Independent

The 1st President of the United States of America

My fear is our entire political system will inevitably fall into a never ending death spiral – denoted by the constant banter of problems with exclusion of answers or solutions. While my tendencies of elections past lean Democratic – or the new Socialist Party of America, I’m open to frank discussion removed from Jesus or Mohammad.

Green technology is a drain on national resources? How about retooling our beleaguered auto and manufacturing industries to service wind towers and electric cars? The thought that green ideas should be relegated to leftist, Marxist psychos with a pension for social reform and free money is incredibly stupid.

Likewise, wanton spending of public money on poorly defined projects and partisan politics does not seem to be in our best interest. Granted, FDR was, in my opinion, successful with his massive public works programs of the 1940’s. However, I feel those programs were based in the realm of hard work under efficient systems to further our nation’s infrastructure and not placed with lexicon like “pork barrels.”

Could it all simply be solved with a renewed sense of purpose? If we don’t get our kicks from oil, would it not be sensible to invent another industry for us to tax the fuck out of? I feel as though we could benefit from less Keith Olbermann and Bill O’Reilly and instead meet locally to discuss the issue that involve ourselves.

“The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of public liberty.”

George Washington
Washington’s Farewell Address 1796

Now, here’s a sophomoric and irrelevant political cartoon:

We're screwed.

We're screwed.

sspx01881After months of tinkering and random coding, I’ve brought back the College Connoisseur’s online home.

Moving forward, this will be my digital citidel – a coagulation of all my online ventures. Here, my tweets will live with my current Netflix movies and Facebook posted items. As soon as time allows, my portfolio of work over the years will move in to complete my masterpiece.

Keep posted, this could be interesting.
